XYZ TRIKE Build Workshop
We built our first XYZ TRIKE in Denmark at the official XYZ Factory Headquarters.
After our amazing adventure in Copenhagen we set off by train to Føns by way of Odense. Trains have good accomodations for bikes, some with dedicated bike cars and others with a bike section available.
The trip took about two hours with one easy transfer along the way. When we arrived we were greeted by Ion’s son on an XYZ TRIKE carrying a folding bike. This made it easy to transport all three of us and our luggage back to the farm near Føns beach.
We arrived at the farm house, built cira 1600s. It is something out of a story book and juxtaposed numerous XYZ Space Frame vehicles, including the prototype mobile office.
Building the XYZ CARGO TRIKE takes about three days (if you know what you are doing). Matt and I were obiously noobs and it took some time to get the hang of things especially in a new shop. Luckily we did have help.
After three long work days, a few contemplative walks down to Føns beach, we had completed our first Trike build. There a quite a number of subtle techniques to get it all put together. I often describe the project as the Ikea of cargo bikes but it is much more advanced - you would need more than a few pages of instructions and an allen wrench to finish one. We do hope to offer a workshop model in the near future so that we can pass on the knowledge of building these versitile and functional vehicles.
Break for a typical Danish lunch - pumpernickel, herring and apple
But it all came together in the end and we packed up all of the parts for the journey home. Getting all of this on a plane was another adventure in itself but somehow we managed.
Somewhat sketchy packaging ready for the train + flight home
